When Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) promises his daughters that he'll make a movie of their favorite book, Mary Poppins, he doesn't realize what a tricky task it will be. P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson), the author of the magical book about a flying nanny, is less than enchanted with 1960s Hollywood and is reluctant to budge on the book's rights. When plans for the dazzling film adaptation and its soundtrack don't impress Travers, Disney learns that reaching back into childhood is the best way to connect with Travers.
