Aide to Elderly

Directions

Many elderly people would appreciate help with household chores and errands. Here are some services that you could offer:

  • Taking out the garbage
  • Housecleaning
  • Exercising the dog
  • Going to the Post Office
  • Washing laundry
  • Sweeping driveways and paths
  • Opening mail and reading it out loud
  • Returning books to the library
  • Making telephone calls
  • Preparing snacks or meals
  • Loading and emptying the dishwasher
  • Making beds
  • Cleaning windows
  • Accompanying them on walks
  • Weeding

To find elderly people who may need your help, contact retirement homes, community services, and elderly day care centers.

Note:Check with your own grandparents about jobs and errands they would most like help with. Offer your services free to them in return for a letter of reference.
