Main Dishes

Estimated time:
30 minutes

Number of servings:
8-12

Ingredients: (Hit your return key to start a new line)
2 packages hot dogs or franks
2-40 oz. cans pork and beans
1 large onion
1/2 stick butter or margarine

Directions:
First, chop the onion and cook it at medium low heat with the butter, til it begins to soften.

Next, chop the franks and add them to the onions, cooking and stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and sweet, and the franks are starting to brown.

Finally, add the 2 cans of beans and simmer til hot. You can eat it right away, or simmer longer for more depth of flavor.

Other suggestions and comments:
Higher priced hot dogs really do taste better, so this is a good dish to make when there is a "buy one, get one free" sale. And some kids protest against onions, but when they're cooked this way, they're sweet and yummy. This may not be the most nutritious meal, but it's not too bad now and then; good on a cool evening, and easy to fix for a large family. Just add some fruit and whole grain bread to complete the picture.
